WATKINS / STUDENT HANDBOOK COVER 2016-2017
Watkins College of Art, Design & Film cultures a huge amount of talent and diversity. I created very large letters occupying the same space and a wide selection of vibrant, saturated colors. The handbook contains vital dates and assignment so the color and form should speak to the character of the school, but also be easily found in a cluttered studio. I juxtaposed the huge explosive letters with clean sans-serif type on white at the top for the immediate and good readability. This white space also solves the problem of confusing your handbook with another student's handbook as the white space serves as a space to write a name.
I pushed the art further with texture to add depth and character. I used screen print techniques for the large letters. I scanned the screen printed letters back into the computer and changed the colors back to my original scheme.
The design was also used as a cover for Watkins' Undergraduate Catalog, Graduate Catalog, and Faculty Handbook.
