VOTE / UX

For this project I searched for something that was needed. A problem that needed to be solved. Voting turn outs are an issue. I began my product development with research first, then design. I discovered insights on how Tennessee and Alabama residents viewed voting. I created personas based on the average user interviewed. I created a problem statement to help discover important questions to ask to better understand frustrations associated with the current process of voting in US presidential elections.

I asked questions like "Do you vote?", "Do you feel satisfied after voting?" and set out to find a solution to a common obstacle. After I had gathered enough data, I looked for common threads between answers. I made a working prototype with functioning animations and user interface to explore solutions to common frustrations.

I asked people around me their opinions about voting.

KEY INSIGHTS

I conducted user interviews to gather insights. When asked, most people suggested making voting an online process. Here are a few sample questions and answers from our survey. We had a sample size of twelve people.

PERSONAS

After I had compiled enough data, I created user personas. These personas will help us make the correct decisions for our design.

USER JOURNEY

Here is our current state for the steps needed to vote.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Based on the findings from the user interviews, we can conclude that a mobile app could be a solution to a common frustration: long lines, traffic, taking off work.

Why an app? An app would simplify the process flow by eliminating the promblem factors

LOGO DESIGN

I chose to use a verb for the app’s name to insight action from participants. The color green was picked to relate back to other good that is related to the color: recycling, nature, and progress. Additionally, thought was put into the option of red or blue because of the United State’s flag colors. Ultimately, I opted not to use either of those colors as a selection of just one might show favoritism towards a particular political party.

I used the V in 'vote' as a checkmark you might see on a ballot at the polls. This felt very natural for me. The color green was picked for it's progressive feel. A major concern that many people have about voting is security and voter fraud. This issue can be combated with the use of blockchain technology. Blockchain is a secure technology used in almost all cryptocurrencies.
